- Preliminary work must include at least nine compositional thumbnails. But you may need to do many more. Think about what is needed for the project. Look at composition, view point, lighting, desired effect.  

For thumbnails, think broad value, not just line. Make sure that your thumbnails are readable to others.

Gluttonous Feast

 

Create a Gluttonous Feast.

Gluttonous - Excessive, greedy, insatiable.

Historical? Modern? Fantastical? Are there People? Is it an event?

Must include "food".

Final drawing must be at least twice as long as tall. 

It must be at least 8” tall. 

The composition must be “full”. 

  • Over the top!  Full composition. Lavish. Unreasonable. Extravagant.

Gluttonous Feast - Create a gluttonous feast. Context can be historical or modern. Composition must be “full”. Lots of detail. Size restriction: Your drawing must be at least twice as wide as tall. Height must be at least 8”. Supporting class assignments: Figure Fall of Light. Still Life Textures and Specular Highlights.

Transformation -  Show transformation through a single drawing, Diptych or Triptych. Supporting class assignment: Long Pose Figure Drawing.

Dramatic Illumination - Using Dramatic Chiaroscuro or Tenebrism, create a scene that reveals an emotion. Restriction: No color. Supporting class assignments: Create a maquette to work from. Onion drawing.

White Charcoal on Black or Dark Paper

 

Using black or very dark paper is a great option if your composition is comprised of many darks. Here are some examples:
